E.K. Initiative will focus on giving every child the best start through school feeding program and alleviate hunger among schoolchildren in Kisumu County, Kenya.
Nairobi, 01 February 2021: The Eddys Kitchen Initiative has officially opened its doors to support the education of underprivileged children through the feeding programs. The feeding cost for each child, which covers all nutrition needs among other things, will be provided by the Initiative.
“Empowering children nutrition and education, empowers future socio-economic status of their community and nation at large.” said Susan Kutalek, Founder of Eddy’s Kitchen. The E.K. Feeding Program is committed to ensuring that poverty doesn't get in the way of a child's education. Through this program the Initiative and its donors can now safeguard continued education for at least 1000 students. Eddy’s Initiative is equipped to better meet those needs and help children be the best version of themselves.
“Experts around the world recognize that investing in the delivery of nutrients has tremendous benefits. It is estimated that every dollar (KES 100) spent on nutrition for a child sees an average return of $30 (KES 3000) over their adult life.” Explained Susan.
Escalating poverty in Kisumu County has contributed to low completion rates and high number of drop-outs. E.K. Initiative aims to attract such out-of-school children from remote villages and urban slums through their initiative. In addition, the Initiative also looks after their health and holistic development through participation in co-curricular activities such as 4K CLUB, Health and fitness camps.
In 2021, the Initiative is geared to partner with over 20 schools across Kisumu County with 90% of learners coming from remote villages & needy families. All of them will receive regular nutrition support while the teachers will get adequate training in healthy nutrition skills through the program.
