THE SECOND RENEWAL OF HOPE.

Updated: Oct 4, 2021

As the saying goes ‘Well begun is half done.

Following the precedent 1st month, the 2nd-month feeding was a triumph as well. Trucks rolled into the designated schools for the delivery of the food produce sourced by M-Shamba. The produce received by Mutwala and Nyalunya Primary schools in Kisumu County is meant to feed 1254 students.

This marks the third feeding month since we commenced the school feeding program in a bid to break the cycle of hunger in school-going children. Giving them a good start entails giving them enough and proper dietary meals for both breakfast and lunch. For that reason, the schools were guided on how to go about with the fermentation of porridge, fortification, and portioning of the food by a nutritionist.

Last year, Kenya was ranked 84th out of 107 qualifying countries in the 2020 Global Hunger Index, therefore, classifying the country’s situation as ‘serious’. Our country has a population of 54 million people in which over 35% face food insecurity and poor nutrition each year. Children are the demographic group most susceptible to hunger. This is because their bodies are vulnerable to other problems hunger causes like stunted growth, a sign of significant vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Malnourished children are subject to stunting, wasting, and apprehension function.

Therefore, with food to eat, the school’s enrolment, attendance rates, and capacity to concentrate and assimilate information are improved.

"The children are exuberant and it is evident in their demeanor. They are more vibrant, versatile, and energetic in classrooms as well as in their interactions among themselves and the teachers. We've seen increased attendance and new students registering. The teachers are also able to save time during their lunchtime hours hence syllabus coverage target is met. Unlike before when they used to go home at lunch hour." said Madam Pauline Kazi, Headteacher of Nyalunya Primary School.

This free school feeding program, Eddys Kitchen Initiative runs is a continued renewal of hope in the schools we serve expedition of attaining education. It is the aspiration that their dreams will be procured. To see children secure this, you can support them by donating a meal. For as little as KES 200 ( $1.87) per student per /day, you support a child per day with both breakfast and lunch and help us reach our estimated goal fund.

When you give a little, you save a lot.
